‘Vikings’ season 4’s episode 19, titled “On The Eve,” is set to follow Ragnar’s sons as they storm the English countryside and prepare for another battle. Meanwhile, King Ecbert is set to plan out a solid defense of the realm with Aethelwulf.
The brief synopsis for “On The Eve” posted on TV.com reads, “The Viking army rampages through the English countryside, while King Ecbert (Linus Roache) and Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford) seek to defend the realm.”
The incoming episode will follow King Ecbert and Aethelwulf as they desperately strategize the defense of the entire English realm when the arrival of the Viking army causes mass panic and threatens to destroy the kingdom. Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) sons will continue their revenge after bringing down King Aelle (Ivan Kaye) and his troops, according to Cartermatt.
A sneak peak of episode opens with Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) running through a field of battle. It shows chaos and destruction as the Vikings fought enemies in hand-to-hand combat. Lagertha is keeping a watchful eye on her strong shield maidens. She then calls to her shield maiden and lover Astrid (Josefin Asplund) that they are fighting in the wrong place.
Meanwhile, a barrage of Viking ships streaming into the English countryside has caused hysteria and mass evacuation among villagers. Ragnar’s sons look menacing as they stand waiting from within their ships. It seems that this scene signals the calm before the storm prior to the imminent showdown between English and Viking armies.
The preceding episode, titled "Revenge," featured the death of King Aelle. It seems that another prominent death is bound to happen sometime soon in the series. According to International Business Times, Ragnar’s vengeful sons will now shift their focus on killing off King Ecbert as well.
It was speculated that Ecbert’s death is imminent considering showrunner Michael Hirst’s tease that another prominent character will meet his demise this season.
‘Vikings’ season 4’s episode 19, titled “On The Eve,” is scheduled to air on History on January 25, 2017. It will be followed by episode 20, titled "The Reckoning," scheduled for February 1.
