‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ season 3 star and Broadway veteran Tituss Burgess talked about his character Titus’ flamboyant Beyonce homage during a recent interview. It was also hinted in a new clip that Jacqueline would enlist Titus to play her suitor in a romantic ruse.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Burgess recalled creating the Beyonce homage for the upcoming season. He said, “I don’t know how we actually got through it. We shot it all in Brooklyn, and there were horns being honked and people were hanging out on their fire escapes watching us film. I’m so used to wearing the most ridiculous outfits and getting attention, but this might’ve taken us three or four days.” He added that getting underwater during production was one of the more challenging parts of the Lemonade stint, admitting that he didn’t know how to swim.
Burgess also gushed over his co-star Ellie Kemper, who plays the titular character in the popular web television sitcom created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. Burgess said, “I read with Ellie Kemper in the audition, and it was love at first sight, it really was. I say I read, but of course I memorized all my lines. I’m so obsessed with this woman. I even get sad thinking about when this part of the journey is over, because it is a rare thing to show up to a television set and be so in love with your costar.”
Besides channeling his inner Beyonce in the upcoming season, Titus will pretend to be a full-on straight man as his alter-ego “Cork Rockingham” in a romantic ruse for Jacqueline White (Jane Krakowski). According to TV Line, Jacqueline with enlist Titus’ help when Duke Snyder (guest star Josh Charles), the brother of Jacqueline’s new love interest Russ (David Cross), also wants to court her.
Meanwhile, Kemper also talked about Kimmy’s new journey to real adulthood during an interview with Moviefone. When asked about her favorite moments for season, Kemper replied, “I think Kimmy going to college is really fun to play. I think, specifically, she's on the crew team there. So I love that Kimmy is so physically strong. I know that it's because she, I guess, got very strong in the bunker, but I think she's just this naturally, sort of inexplicably strong person, and I love that. I love that she's athletic. That stuff's just fun to play.”
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ season 3 is scheduled to air on Netflix on May 19, 2017.
