The Excellence in Leadership Award pays tribute to an extraordinary woman who has devoted her professional career and personal life to revolutionizing the world of business, entertainment, philanthropy, or government. Previous honorees include Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, iconic journalist and talk show host Cristina Saralegui, seven-time Grammy-Award winning artist Gloria Estefan, businesswoman and co-owner of the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball franchise Linda Alvarado, and Cosmopolitan for Latinas’ Editor in Chief Michelle Herrera Mulligan.
“The USHCC is honored to award Cindy McCain, a tireless advocate for human trafficking victims around the world, with our Excellence in Leadership Award. As a powerful voice in both the public and private sector, Cindy McCain has perfectly exemplified what it means to serve the greater good. She has consistently shown her commitment to cross party lines for the benefit of human trafficking victims. She has challenged the status quo and set forth an example we should all aspire to emulate,” said Javier Palomarez, USHCC President & CEO. “The Chamber is blessed to be joined by Mrs. McCain at our 2017 National Convention in Dallas, and we look forward to celebrating the contributions of all our nation’s groundbreaking women during our Women in Business and Leadership Luncheon.”
“I am truly humbled to receive the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) 2017 Excellence in Leadership Award. The USHCC continues to be a stalwart example of powerful civic engagement through private sector outreach, open dialogue, tireless advocacy.” said Cindy McCain. “Fighting on behalf of human trafficking victims is truly a worldwide issue that we should all be engaged in. It is important that we have the difficult conversations necessary to address this heinous plague that has infected our society. I’m grateful to the USHCC for choosing me for this award and I hope that it will help spur further involvement to combat human trafficking, in all its forms, wherever it shows its ugly face.”
Cindy McCain has been a steadfast advocate for victims of this modern-day slavery. In Congress, she has testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee to assert the necessity of foreign aid to the Democratic Republic of Congo and draw attention the sex crimes in the country. She has spoken up for victims at home in the United States as well, speaking alongside politicians and celebrities to fight trafficking.
“Cindy McCain is truly a role model for all Americans. A deep commitment to the public good coupled with a fiery drive to speak on behalf of the voiceless, she embodies everything we at the USHCC hope this award will represent,” said USHCC Chairman Don Salazar. “We are honored to add Mrs. McCain to the exclusive cadre of prestigious honorees of this award at the USHCC.”
