Earlier this month in an interview with a British conservative member of the parliament Michael Gove and the German newspaper Bild, US President Donald Trump said that he is ready to move fast and make a trade deal with the United Kingdom - an 180-degree change from the previous Obama administration, hailed Brexit, and slammed the European Union by calling it a vehicle for Germany.
There were angry responses from the German side, while the ministers of the United Kingdom welcomed Trump’s suggestion of a quicker trade agreement with the United Kingdom. Well, it is difficult to predict, whether such a move, to slam the largest economy in the Europe is wise or not but it is definitely a clever strategy when it comes to trade. And Mr. Trump has made the revival of United States’ trade by making fairer trade deals, a key cornerstone of his policy.
- The UK is currently in a very tough position due to upcoming Brexit. So, a trade deal with the United States suddenly looks a win and the United States can get a better deal at the moment.
- And for Germany, its exports get immense benefit from the single currency. If the country should return to Deutsche Mark the exports are likely to get reduced significantly due to higher pricing in the world market.
