Powered by an anticipated surge in transportation equipment requisitions, durable goods bookings likely climbed by 3.5% in October, recouping all but a fraction of the 4.1% decline recorded over the August-September span. A near quadrupling of commercial jetliner orders during the reference period probably lifted transport bookings 10.2% higher - the largest rise since June.
Net of the projected strength in the above segment, hard-goods orders likely eked out a comparatively modest 0.3% gain, reversing the reported prior-month dip. Nondefense capital goods orders and shipments excluding civilian aircraft probably posted respective 0.6% and 0.2% increases in October.
"Our projections, if realized, would place core nondefense capex bookings and deliveries 6.9% and 1.0% annualized above their summer-quarter averages", says Societe Generale.
