Hollywood's gossip machine has a way of taking the past and using it to keep the rumor mill grinding away in the present. Such is the case for the decades-old romance between Tom Cruise and Cher.
While the '80s affair between the “Top Gun” star and the Sonny & Cher singer was confirmed personally by Cher in a couple of public interviews over the years, she and Tom Cruise have not been seen in public in a potentially romantic manner even after Tom Cruise's divorce from his second wife, Katie Holmes. But it seems time and rationality don't stop the Hollywood grapevine from stretching its tendrils.
Lately, a story has been spreading that Tom Cruise and Cher have decided to re-explore their chemistry from a brief fling they had more than 30 years ago. According to the claims, Cruise and Cher have been meeting up in Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles for trysts. It seems that the rumors want to paint a steamy and unbridled rediscovery of sexuality between the two celebrities despite their age with a dash of some romance due to their personal history.
Gossip Cop recently debunked these rumors by pointing out that Cher herself stated in a recent interview that she was not currently dating anyone. Cher's statement rules out the possibility of the alleged trysts with Tom Cruise. In addition, Gossip Cop was able to acquire confirmation from Cher's representative that the rumors about Tom Cruise and Cher's rediscovered passions are untrue.
Cher has also mentioned that the reason she is currently not seeing anyone is partly due to her dislike for the media overexposure that usually accompanies celebrity relationships. It seems that in its excitement to bank on Tom Cruise and Cher's past romance for a juicy story, the gossip industry has forgotten to take into account that in this day and age, a picture is worth more than a thousand words.
