Tiger Woods Arrested For DUI In Florida, Blames Prescription Medications

On Memorial Day, fans of golf legend Tiger Woods were shocked when it was made known that he was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) near his home in South Florida. Majority of the news came with the mug shot of what looked nothing like Tiger Woods, ESPN said.

Jason Sobel for the sports site writes:

“Look at those sunken eyes in that mugshot and we no longer see the mercurial golfer who once seemed so invincible inside the ropes. There often was debate during his prime over whether Woods intimidated his opponents. He wasn't just better than them, the argument stated, he also was tougher… This, though, is Woods at his most vulnerable. It is an image he never wanted to portray to anyone, let alone the entire, gawking world. And it's a sad one, the very portrait of a man who has made mistakes.”

Woods has since been released after spending 4 hours in prison, ABC News said. The golfer has issued a statement on his arrest, and blames his prescription meds for his actions. He said, "I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved," he said. "What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again."

Mark Steinberg, Woods’s longtime agent, however, would not clarify whether Woods’ medications were a result of his back problem. The Washington Post said Woods backed out from a February event in Dubai, claiming back problems, and had back surgery in April.

“He wanted to clarify the situation. But there’s nothing further to provide right now,” Steinberg said over the phone.
