Scientists created a material that has 3-in-1 energy production capabilities. It can gather solar energy as well as energy from movement and even heat. This could significantly improve the standing of green energy in a world that is fast becoming more and more concerned about fossil fuel. It could even have substantial financial benefits to really get investors onboard.
Renewable energy is on the rise and some of the most popular options include solar and wind energy. However, many of the mainstream green choices are still considered limited. With the findings on this new 3-in-1 material that was published in Applied Physics Letter journal, however, green companies now have more choices on the kinds of clean technology that they can create.
The material in question is part of the perovskite family of minerals called KBNNO, which have ferroelectric properties. This basically means that it can harness several types of energy at once, but the KBNNO can harness more than most.
University of Oulu research Yang Bai and team made the discovery, Futurism reports. According to him, the material simply needs to undergo certain modifications that the team is already working on in order to refine the process and enable it to harness more than two types of energy at once.
Of course, this is just the material that has been discovered so far. A device is still necessary in order to actually make use or store the energy that is harvested thanks to KBNNO. It would appear that the researchers are already planning on creating such a device that will actually be able to harness the energy produced by the material.
With the material’s fabrication being fairly straightforward, mass producing it shouldn’t be much of a problem. In a few years, the world could be looking at one of the most cost-effective and most efficient ways of powering entire cities ever.
