“The Witcher” season 2 is slated for a 2021 release but there’s a good chance that its airing might be delayed due to the current coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, here’s what’s known so far about its cast, new characters, and the second season's possible villains.

‘The Witcher’ season 2 cast

Henry Cavill will be returning in “The Witcher” season 2. The “Superman” actor will reprise his role as Geralt of Rivia.

However, Geralt will now be joined by four other witchers in the upcoming season. One of these is Vesemir, who will be played by actor Kim Bodnia, according to PCGamer.

“Introducing Vesemir: Kim Bodnia will play the Continent's oldest and most experienced Witcher in Season 2 of #TheWitcher,” Netflix announced on Twitter. As the oldest, Vesemir acted as a father figure to Geralt as well as the other witchers.

Vesemir will also be joined by one of his students Eskel. The character will be played by Danish actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen. The third witcher to join in the second season will be Lambert, who will be played by Paul Bullion. Completing the roundup is Coën, who will be played by Yasen Atour.

“Game of Thrones” fans might notice a familiar face in the upcoming second season. Kristofer Hivju, who played GoT’s Tormund Giantsbane has been cast as Nivellin in “The Witcher” season 2. The confirmation of his casting was made earlier this year, along with other actors.

“The Continent just got a little bigger,” NX tweeted in February. “Here's the new cast of #TheWitcher Season 2: Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, and Mecia Simson as Francesca.”

Showrunner teases next season’s villains

Meanwhile, “The Witcher” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich might just have teased who the villains in the second season would be. In a tweet, Hissrich expressed her excitement to explore the story of two characters, who acted as antagonists in the previous season’s last episode, according to GameRant.

“I can't wait to dig deeper into Cahir and Fringilla in S2... who they are, why Nilfgaard is important to them, and where they'll go from here... it's one of my favorite parts of the new season. QuarantineWatchParty #TheWitcher,” Hissrich tweeted.

‘The Witcher’ season 2 release date

The second season of “The Witcher” is expected to arrive sometime in 2021. However, Netflix has not announced a specific release date yet at the moment though previous reports stated that the show has started its production early this year.

It must be noted that those plans were made before the coronavirus became a pandemic. Since Netflix decided to suspend the production of its shows, there’s a good chance that the next season’s release might be delayed. Stay tuned for more updates.
