There is a new “Witcher” game launching this month, but it will not feature Geralt or other elements from the popular RPG franchise. Fans will soon assume the role of monster hunter and locate creatures around their area as the mobile augmented reality title officially launches this month.
‘The Witcher: Monster Slayer’ pre-registration is live on Android
“The Witcher: Monster Slayer” will go live at the right time as outside activities are slowly getting back to normal in many parts of the world. The game will let fans revisit some familiar foes from the Continent as they act as an actual witcher, who needs to hunt down these monsters.
A new 15-second trailer was released by developer Spokko over the weekend to announce that “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” will be available starting Wednesday, July 21 on Android and iOS. Pre-registration is available right now, but only to Android users. It can be recalled that when Spokko offered an early access trial, it was also exclusively available on the Android platform.
Fans can now visit the official “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” page on the Google Play Store to see more in-game screenshots. One of the images offers a sneak peek of the game’s “Trophies” that include creatures from the Continent, such as Basilisk, Shaelmaar, Leshen, Alp, Griffin, and Vodnik.
‘The Witcher: Monster Slayer’ gameplay: What to expect
Many long-time fans of “The Witcher” are likely wondering about the same thing, and that is whether or not they are going to play “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” as the franchise’s main protagonist Geralt. The short answer is no. Spokko explains in an FAQ page that the mobile game is actually set way before Geralt of Rivia walked among the monsters of the Continent. On the bright side, players will have access to customization options to build their own character, which includes choosing a unique name and personalizing their appearance.
Spokko’s answer to whether there are story quests in “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” is a little vague, but it appears that these are not exactly part of the AR game’s features. But the developer confirmed it will introduce seasonal stories, which could be composed of several missions that include interacting with NPCs. “These quests will take you on deep, layered adventures which will make you feel like a true witcher,” Spokko added.
“The Witcher: Monster Slayer” will not launch with a multiplayer mode. However, Spokko hints it could be part of a future update.
