“The Winds of Winter” is expected to arrive as “Game of Thrones” is about to end its run, marking season 8 as the finale. As fans anticipate and wait for the book's release, author George R.R. Martin revealed that writing his novel was not an easy job for him.
In his recent interview, the 70-year-old award-winning author shared that the massive scale of his books adapted for TV via “Game of Thrones” nearly killed him.
Speaking to Express, Martin said, “This thing nearly killed me and it’s probably the most massive work that I’m capable of doing.” He added, “I hope to continue writing standalone novels, novellas and short stories, but nothing on this scale.”
He is still working on his sixth book in the series, “The Winds of Winter,” and based on what he said, it is easy to see how the pressure is taking its toll on the veteran author. But still, fans should not be worried because George R.R. Martin previously assured everyone that he is finishing “TWOW.”
At the 76th World Science Fiction Convention last month, he was asked by sci-fi illustrator John Picacio about how he was coming along with writing “The Winds of Winter.”
The author replied, "Working on it. Working on it, believe me, you'll know when it's done. It'll be the shout that is heard 'round the world."
Meanwhile, it was reported that George R.R. Martin also wished that he had finished “The Winds of Winter” a long time ago, just like what the fans wished. "I wish I'd been done four years ago, but I'm slow," he told The Hollywood Reporter last week.
Martin went on to relay that in an effort to finish the long-delayed “The Winds of Winter,” he is even skipping many events like going to the final filming of “Game of Thrones” and other events that he usually goes to.
Finally, while the release date for “The Winds of Winter” is not determined yet, fans can buy George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” which is about the history of the Targaryens. It will be out on Nov. 20.
