“The Winds of Winter” has been in the works since 2012 but even after all these years, it has yet to be published. George RR Martin dropped the fifth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” in 2011 and fans were already expecting the sixth which is “TWOW” to drop soon after that, but apparently, fans were wrong.
Why Martin is late
Even Martin himself admitted that he could have released “The Winds of Winter” in his original promised date but due to procrastination and his other works, he failed to complete the book. Plus, it is possible that HBO’s “Game of Thrones” affected his writing schedules.
Also, the fact that “GoT” was completed even if he hasn’t written the original story’s ending yet means that he has to rewrite some chapters and this further delayed the completion of the book. Martin also knows that he should finish the book now or he will never will because of his age. He is already 71 years old and even the fans are worried if he can still work.
Martin’s new update on “TWOW”
Martin made a promise to release “The Winds of Winter” in mid-2020 and he sounds so confident that he gave permission for his fans to locked up in a cabin so he can focus on writing. This due date is just a few months away and it seems that fans don’t have to drag him to a remote cabin anymore because he is already there due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He previously revealed that he only has one staff assisting him and all he does is write. He is in self-isolation because of the health crisis and Martin posted an update about his progress last week. In his blog, he wrote that he really has nothing big to share but is moving forward with his work.
“No big news here, but it has been a week or so since my last blog post, so I thought I would say hi,” Martin wrote on April 14. “I am still up in the mountains, doing the social distancing rag, and writing WINDS OF WINTER. I have good days and bad days, but I am making progress.”
