Reviews of the latest Marvel movie, “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” are already coming out. However, despite the order of the title, director Peyton Reed stressed that this is the first Marvel superhero movie that’s led by a female character. Reed emphatically explained that Hope “The Wasp” van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) is not just a supporting character. He also expressed hope that “Ant-Man 3” is going to happen.
In a recent interview with IndieWire, the movie director revealed that the upcoming “Captain Marvel” film starring Brie Larson will not be the first female-led Marvel superhero film: It’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” Reed insisted that the movie is Hope’s story.
“She’s not a supporting character,” Reed told the publication. “She’s a lead in this movie, and it really is her story.”
Reed also said that Lilly wanted to make sure that Hope was just not going to be a wallflower in the film. As such, she dedicated herself to making the heroine appear as capable in the movie as her male counterparts.
“Evangeline and I worked really closely together from even the pre-script and story stage to all these basic questions about when she gets the suit and becomes a hero,” Reed explained. “Everything from what’s her fighting style to how she moves.”
Now that details of “Ant-Man and the Wasp” are out, the director turns his attention to a potential third installment to the films. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reed expressed hope that an “Ant-Man 3” film is going to be made. As Bleeding Cool notes, a lot of this will depend on how well the second film in the series performs in the box office.
If “Ant-Man and the Wasp” rakes in huge ticket sales, another sequel will not be out of the question. In its review of the film, Forbes notes that the movie is estimated to hit the $80 million mark, at least.
