There is still no way of telling whether or not “The Sims 5” has already entered development. But that did not stop many fans from expecting that the next game would be announced in 2019. With only a month left before the start of a new decade, it is even more unlikely for EA to drop such the news this holiday.
The year 2020 is also not looking very promising for those hoping to see what “The Sims 5” will offer that is not in the current game. Reports have it that EA still has some major expansion plans for “The Sims 4” (TS4) that could further delay the announcement of a new game.
‘The Sims 5’ release date announcement: When would EA give an update?
A new year has not started yet, but EA's fiscal year 2020 started last April. And in an earnings report for Q1'FY2020, the video game company stressed that TS4 remains one of its priority titles.
“‘The Sims 4’ continues to be one of the great owned IP success stories of our portfolio, and we are planning for FY '20 to be our biggest year yet of new content,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said. Since FY2020 goes on until the end of March next year, the chance of hearing about “The Sims 5” before New Year or in the coming months is quite slim.
It then makes more sense to start expecting news about a new game in spring, and E3 2020 could be a more special event to those eagerly waiting to hear about “The Sims 5.”
‘The Sims 5’ gameplay rumors: What to expect
Reviewing the content packs released since April, it can be said that EA delivered its promise for a major FY2020 content-wise for TS4. Since then, two expansions were launched, namely “Island Living” and “Discover University.” The game pack ”Realm of Magic” and Moschino Stuff were also launched within that period.
In terms of gameplay, EA launched major upgrades for TS4 this year, as well. For the first time in the series, players can now configure the staircases. This is just one element that can be expected on “The Sims 5.” But speculations suggest that EA might consider adding a VR mode on the next game.
