Economic justice is an element of social justice. It is a set of moral principles meant for establishing economic institutions. Its optimum goal is to provide every individual a chance to create enough material foundation where they can have a productive, dignified and creative life above economics.
Economic justice in the modern society
1. Balancing the poor and the rich
Economic justice is more about economic position and money. Its campaigners often preach about equal opportunity and fairness. This is great but it however depends on who is preaching. There are people who hijack words and redefine them to suit their desires. In economic justice case, it is not about people having equal opportunity to go after their dreams. It is about equal opportunity to access the world’s goods.
Many economic justice organizations say that they are representing the poor with the aim of helping them live comfortably. To achieve this, they have to get help from somewhere. That somewhere is from those who are financially stable.
This may be done through the use of the political system or the courts. All they need to do is to move wealth from the rich people to the poor ones. This transfer of wealth comes to the poor as:
- Easy access to lowered health costs
- Almost free social services
- Food stamps
- Subsidized housing.
2. Poverty
Being poor is a state of less economic productivity. A person who is poor finds it challenging to even make use of easy money making opportunities like bertils casino which do not require so much knowledge. Unless you find out the reasons why people are poor, you will never be able to take them out of that situation. And most poor people are not stuck in poverty. They are just at a low spot. Things like losing a job, getting divorced or simply being a starter in a business can make one’s economic situation less than ideal. But this situation is not permanent. There are people who have come out of it.
There are other people who being poor is their lifestyle. What the economic advocacy groups miss to understand here is that such people that are systematically poor are so for a certain reason. The reason can be government-caused or self inflicted. Self inflicted reasons include:
- Drugs
- Poor work ethics
- Dropping out of school.
Conclusion
Economic justice is not based on economics neither does it seek justice. What it does is enable the poor to go on in poverty but in a manner that is a bit more comfortable at the expense of the wealthy people. By doing that, the programs are expanding poverty and not minimizing it. Justice means receiving what you deserve whether good or bad. And since economic justice takes wealth from those who have worked for it to give those that have not worked for it, it is difficult to see how the term justice fits.
