“The Promised Neverland” season 2 is confirmed to arrive next year. However, will the anime series return at the same year the manga series would end?

Very shortly after the first season of the anime series concluded, producers announced the making of “The Promised Neverland” season 2. The only catch is that fans will have to wait until 2020 to see what happens to the group of orphans that Emma and Ray led to escape from the demons operating the Grace Field House orphanage.

While anime fans are waiting for “The Promised Neverland” season 2, manga readers will likely see the series ending in the near future. Unlike other popular manga series that went on or had been going on for decades, makers of “The Promised Neverland” previously said they do not want to prolong the story that much. Writer Kaiu Shirai told FranceInfo in 2018 that he sees the manga series wrapping up in 30 volumes.

Before “The Promised Neverland” season 2 begins, there are already 14 volumes of “The Promised Neverland” since late 2016. Over 10 more chapters are yet to be published in the tankōbon format as of this writing.

Monsters & Critics speculates on the possibility that the manga will conclude in 2020. The report noted series supervising editor Suguru Sugita previously promised the manga having a much faster pace from early 2018 onwards. “From now on, as the story races at full speed to the end, I would be happy if you continue to watch over these kids as they learn the truth of the world and meet their destinies,” Sugita told Mantan Web. At this rate, however, a faster manga series may not have immediate effects to the making of “The Promised Neverland” season 2.

Once the anime returns in 2020, “The Promised Neverland” season 2 will tackle events that are still in the earlier parts of the series. CloverWorks, the studio that produces the anime, has yet to announce a specific release date for the second season.
