Smartphones have long since replaced most digital cameras in terms of general picture-taking activities. This is why manufacturers are investing so much money in enabling their products to take better images. While most companies are currently sticking to the two-camera system, LG decided to go the extra mile. According to reports, its V40 smartphone will apparently come with five cameras.
These reports come via Android Police, which got the information from a source with knowledge of the matter. Apparently, the smartphone (tentatively referred to as the V40) will come with two cameras for the front and three for the rear.
Not all of the functionalities of the cameras were made clear, but it would seem that the front cameras will enable face unlock, similar to that on the iPhone X. As for the rear cameras, the publication speculates that the first two could feature the standard wide lens and the ultra-wide lens that LG is known for. The function of the third rear camera hasn’t been determined as of yet.
Now, it’s worth noting that these features are not exactly new. The Huawei P20 Pro already has three cameras for the rear, for example. There are even rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S10 might come with a similar camera configuration as well, CNET reports.
In the case of the LG V series, the company’s V30 did not exactly perform as well as expected when it launched last year. The manufacturer might be hoping that where three cameras failed to make an impression, five would succeed.
Other reported features of the V40 are a Snapdragon 845 processor, the Quad DAC audio system by LG, and a fingerprint scanner on the back. Unfortunately, the smartphone will apparently still come with a notch. It’s expected to be released later this year, and since the details revealed so far are effectively rumors, it’s best to take them with a great big helping of salt.
