Sneaker enthusiasts are in for a treat as the JJJJound x ASICS GT-2160 launches on Halloween, bringing minimalist design and unique materials. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Doctor Strange casts a collaboration with adidas and Size? featuring three iconic sneaker silhouettes inspired by the mystical film trilogy.
JJJJound and ASICS Reunite for Minimalist GT-2160 Collaboration, Featuring Unique Materials and Design
If one pivotal moment set ASICS on its path to meteoric success, it could be attributed to the 2022 collaboration with Montreal design studio JJJJound. When the studio revamped two GEL-Kayano 14s, the Japanese brand found itself in the spotlight, becoming a vital driver of the early 2000s runner trend. Sneaker News report, JJJJound, and ASICS have not partnered on another project since those iconic releases, the wait is over, as an official preview of their next collaboration has surfaced.
@jjjjound recently shared images revealing two new collaborative ASICS GT-2160 colorways. True to JJJJound’s minimalist aesthetic, both designs focus on simple, understated color schemes with metallic silver accents. The white pair adds a pop of neon, offering a subtle twist to the clean palette. Fans of ASICS will notice the non-traditional material choices, with both pairs featuring wide mesh on the base, departing from the usual tight-knit construction.
The forefoot and tongue overlays are made of carbon fiber instead of the standard leather, further enhancing the unique appeal of these shoes. While not designed to grab attention through flashy designs, the collaboration exemplifies JJJJound’s signature approach of making tasteful, refined upgrades without straying far from the original aesthetic.
Official images of both JJJJound x ASICS GT-2160 colorways confirm the earlier preview. They highlight the mesh construction, carbon fiber accents, and reflective elements. Both pairs will also come with an extra set of two-tone laces, adding another layer of versatility to the design.
Marvel and adidas Collaborate with Size? for Doctor Strange-Inspired Sneaker Collection, Debuting at NYCC
Meanwhile, Marvel’s ongoing partnership with adidas has welcomed a new collaborator: the UK-based Size? store. Together, they’ve crafted a collection inspired by the Doctor Strange film trilogy, spotlighting three classic adidas silhouettes—the Handball Spezial, Gazelle Indoor, and New York—each tied to one of the trilogy’s films.
This first look at the collection comes ahead of New York Comic Con, set for October 17th through October 20th, adding excitement to the reveal. While details surrounding the third Doctor Strange movie remain limited, the design choices for each sneaker draw inspiration from the mystical, psychedelic elements of the franchise. The Gazelle Indoor features a striking two-tone green colorway with dark gum soles, while the Handball Spezial combines dark navy with light pink accents.
The New York model incorporates mustard gold tones with light spruce stripes. Upon closer inspection, Marvel co-branding is visible on the tongue, and the Seal of Vishanti is on the heel. The insoles feature unique artwork depicting the psychedelic, otherworldly landscapes often seen in the Doctor Strange films.
Although an official release date has not been announced, fans can expect Size? to share more details shortly.
