In the anime industry, strong support for the first season does not always lead to the series renewal because the story most franchises are being told either in manga or light novel materials. This is likely the case for “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2.
The first season that premiere in 2014 was received with mostly positive reviews. Its popularity even led to the release of a feature-length movie that served as a direct sequel and was also based on the same light novel. However, the film was released about two years ago and the future of “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 remains vague.
'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 production, release date: Is it confirmed?
There have been several reports that Madhouse, the popular animation studio that produced the first season, announced the making of “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 back in 2015. Other reports also claim that such an announcement was made as recent as 2018.
Aside from the supposed announcements, some reports were also claiming the anime will return with new episodes earlier this year that obviously did not happen. Note that, despite the reports, it is very hard to find links that would lead to the Madhouse’s official statement about its plans for “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2. With that, anime fans are advised to take these reports with a pinch of salt.
'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 spoilers: What happens next for the Shibuya siblings?
The entire series revolves around the siblings, Tatsuya, and Miyuki Shibuya, who just entered the magic academy as high school students. The timeline of the first season with 26 episodes as well as the anime film covered the time when the protagonists were in their first year. Despite the lack of updates on “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2, the 2017 movie curiously included a post-credits scene that seemingly hints at the animated adaptation of the light novel.
In the brief sequence, Miyuki and Tatsuya appear to be walking back to school as sophomores. Miyuki looks happy, and it was because Tatsuya finally wears an emblem on his uniform after his previous achievements. These events are exactly how the light novel volume 12 started where “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 would most likely pick from if it ever gets released.
