A lot of gamers have been itching for any news about “The Elder Scrolls 6” to come out and many of them likely could not be bothered to care about the cause for the leaks. However, it’s undeniable that the recent development with regards to the game is both unusual and hilarious in nature. Basically, a trademark fight between Zenimax and a sci-fi author might have given away a hint of what the game is about.
For some context into this story, it was revealed that Zenimax had filed for a trademark patent the year before involving the word “Redfall,” Comic Book reports. This patent supposedly had something to do with “The Elder Scrolls 6,” thus leading to much hype for the game. Now, a sci-fi author has come forward to express his outrage at the fact that the company wants to own the rights to the said word.
The author, in question, is Jay Falconer. As to why he has such a huge problem with Zenimax owning the word “Redfall” for “The Elder Scrolls 6,” it’s because he wrote a series with the same name. Should the gaming company become the owner of that label, it would have consequences for his books. It’s also worth noting that the writer has filed his own patent in order to halt the process.
In a recent post on social media, Falconer provided more context with regards to why he did what he did. It would seem that he has made several attempts in the past to resolve this issue amicably. Based on the writer’s own claims, the makers of “The Elder Scrolls 6” have not been very cooperative.
"My lawyers made attempts to contact gaming company to work out a simple licensing deal for them to use my Redfall name," the post reads. "They ignored me every time. Shame. Left me no choice. All could have been avoided. Just call my attorneys back."
A side effect of this particular issue is that fans might now have an idea of what the name of “The Elder Scrolls 6” was supposed to be. What’s more, it could also hold the clue as to where the next game in the series will be located. Current bets put it in either High Rock or Hammerfell.
