“The Crown” season 3 is one of the must-watch upcoming drama in Netflix because it will offer many iconic events in history such as Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles’ romance. What’s more, the production team meticulously searched for locations in the United Kingdom in order to make the series as “authentic” as possible.
Fans will see different faces when “The Crown” season 3 premieres. Almost all the cast were replaced by new actors and it turned out that there is a reason for the change. Showrunner Peter Morgan revealed that from the start they already planned to switch most of the actors every two seasons and this is due to the fact that it is essential to the story.
For instance, in “The Crown” season 3 that will feature the lives of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, they need to feature younger actors because the prince and princess in this period were still teens or in their 20s. In the previous seasons, the members of the Royal family were older so the actors portraying were around that age as well.
In addition, “The Crown” season 3 director Nina Gold explained to Vanity Fair why they revamped the cast lineup. “Not only are we casting real-life characters but as we get closer to the present day, many of these people are very much alive. So we have to honor them by picking the right actor to play them while making a link between the actors who played these characters in the first seasons,” she said.
So, who are the new cast for “The Crown” season 3?
As per reports, Olivia Colman will take the role of Queen Elizabeth from Claire Foy who did the part for the first two seasons. Helena Bonham Carter was also confirmed to play Princess Margaret in “The Crown” season 3. She replaced Vanessa Kirby for the role.
Tobias Menzies will be Prince Philip, replacing Matt Smith while Jason Watkins will take over from John Lithgow as British Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Finally, although there is no advise yet with regards to its premiere date, “The Crown” season 3 is expected to arrive this year.
