As proof that there is still a market for specialized smartphones with very specific features, the Cat S61 smartphone by Bullitt is one seriously tech loaded device. It’s got everything from advanced thermal-imaging sensors to dimensional measuring features that allow for accurate measurements of object distance. The company isn’t sugarcoating the fact that this is not a phone for everyone either.
As with the Cat S60 unit that was introduced in 2016, the S61 variant as a rugged device that was designed to be used by people who do on-site work such as engineers or construction personnel. It’s capable of measuring temperatures of up to 400 degrees Celsius, CNET reports, which is an improvement over its predecessor by 120 degrees.
The images can also be livestreamed along with all relevant data so that others can see what was going on. This is ideal for workers who may not have the right skills for the job but are already on site or employees who are simply looking for a second opinion.
There’s also the air quality sensor that’s already built into the phone, which is intended to detect if there are pollutants in the air of the chemical or biological sort. It’s unlikely to work on everything, but for most common examples such as a gas leak, for example, the device can warn users just fine.
For those who prefer distance measurement to be more convenient, the S61 also comes with a laser system that’s capable of accurately measuring distance for up to 10 meters, Engadget reports. The results could even be captured via the rear camera so that it can easily be documented.
With regards to its smartphone specs, however, it’s in the mid-range region. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and it comes with 4GB of RAM. It does come with a 4,500mAh battery, though, so that’s neat. It also sports the latest Android Oreo OS, which is nice.
