One of the highly anticipated plot twists in “The Blacklist” season 6 is the return of Katarina Rostova (Lotte Verbeek). Considering that the possible endgame is discovering the whole truth about the fake Raymond Reddington (James Spader), her appearance could be very significant in the plot.
The fifth season’s finale revealed that the father Liz (Megan Boone) has known all this time is an impostor. Unfortunately, it seems like there are only a few people that Liz can turn to for answers. But maybe all she needs to solve this big mystery is to be reunited with her mother, Katarina, in “The Blacklist” season 6.
Liz has not seen her mother in person for a very long time and the viewers have only seen Katarina through flashbacks in the third and fourth season. Coming to “The Blacklist” season 6, the characters have varying theories about Katarina’s real story. Some people in the intel community does not even think Katarina is a real person.
However, in several significant moments, it is somehow established that Katarina is one of the few people who can connect the dots about Red’s past and motives in posing as Raymond Reddington. So bringing her back in “The Blacklist” season 6 (in the present timeline, not just flashbacks) makes sense.
In her pursuit of the truth, the “The Blacklist” season 6 synopsis suggests it will not be easy for Liz to instantly disregard the bond she created with Red through the years. However, this could greatly change once the real status of Katarina is revealed.
Liz was previously told that her mother is dead. But in season 4, a conversation between Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) and Red confirmed it was a lie. Whatever happened to Katarina and where she is now appeared to be the work of Red and Dembe stated that the truth can devastate Liz. If Red deliberately separated Katarina from Liz, it could just be another reason to strengthen Liz’s resolve in finding out all of Red’s secrets in “The Blacklist” season 6.
The first part of “The Blacklist” season 6’s premiere event will air on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 10 p.m. ET. But the show’s regular schedule in 2019 is on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
