It is impossible for NBC not to order “The Blacklist” season 6, especially after the explosive season 5 finale. Some bits of information about the next installment are already revealed while major plot details are still tightly guarded.
For a brief recap, the season 5 closed with the shocking revelation that the Reddington (James Spader) fans have known for half a decade is an imposter. Stirring the pot further, it was revealed that Liz (Meghan Boone) was already aware of this major blunder. Now, “The Blacklist” season 6 will definitely center on Liz’s quest for finding the truth and revenge.
Liz’s next steps in busting the fake Red will be narrated in another series of 22 episodes for “The Blacklist” season 6, according to Monsters and Critics. Except for season 3, the show has always had 22 episodes every installment.
While the episode count will not change, fans must expect to watch the new episodes of “The Blacklist” season 6 in a new schedule. Entertainment Weekly previously confirmed that the show has been moved to a Friday time slot for when it returns in early 2019.
Maintaining the number of episodes following a series renewal is typically good news. However, fans see another possibility with “The Blacklist” season 6 being moved to a Friday night schedule.
In an earlier Reddit thread, several fans agree that TV networks’ decision to move a certain show to a Friday time slot typically means it is close to getting on the chopping block. One fan even likened it to giving “The Blacklist” season 6 the “kiss of death.”
Meanwhile, the epic plot twist involving Reddington might seem like an idea conceived at a later time to open the show to even more possibilities. But showrunner Jon Bokenkamp told EW that it was “something that [they’ve] talked about from the inception of the show.” In fact, even James Spader had known about the surprise for quite some time.
