‘The Americans’ season 5’s episode 5, titled “Lotus 1-2-3," will feature Philip and Elizabeth as face surprising news about their son Henry. Henry was thrust into the spotlight in the previous episode, when it was revealed that he was having problems in school.
The synopsis for episode 5 posted on TV Guide reads, “Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) receive surprising news about Henry (Keidrich Sellati) and shattering news about a past operation. Elsewhere: Stan (Noah Emmerich) might be falling in love, but Philip wonders if something darker is going on.”
In the previous episode, titled "What's the Matter with Kansas?," Philip and Elizabeth take on their respective roles after receiving new assignments to follow two “marks” in Kansas. Their new assignments involved getting close to a male scientist and a female executive at Agricorp. The company is suspected in using insects to destroy the Soviet Union’s crops.
Oleg (Costa Ronin), on the other hand, opened up about his circumstance with his mother. According to a recap of episode 4 posted on Entertainment Weekly, Oleg confessed that although he helped Stan Beeman, he is now being blackmailed by him. It seems, however, that the CIA is the one behind the blackmail and Stan was against it.
Paige (Holly Taylor), who continued her mission to contribute something to her parents’ trade, began snooping around when she had to baby sit for Pastor Tim and his wife Alice. She spent the night looking around for anything valuable and came across his journal.
When Elizabeth found out about what she had done, she went on to praise and berate her at the same time. Elizabeth then suggested to Philip that they use the notes to their advantage.
The previous episode also featured Henry’s storyline. It was revealed that he was having some trouble in school and his parents were even requested to meet with a teacher over his current situation. The upcoming episode is set to feature Henry’s troubles in the spotlight, basing on the synopsis.
‘The Americans’ season 5’s episode 5, titled “Lotus 1-2-3," is scheduled to air on FX on April 4, 2017. It was directed by Noah Emmerich and written by Joshua Brand. It will be followed by episode 6, titled "Crossbreed," is scheduled to be released on April 11 and directed by Roxann Dawson.
