With the Tesla Model 3 being the company’s attempt at finally accessing that mass consumer market, it’s only natural that Tesla would want to give the car some impressive features. In the aspect of efficiency, for example, the Model 3 apparently has a rating of 126 MPGe. This makes the vehicle an incredibly appealing choice for electric car enthusiasts.
The new rating was noticed by users over at the forum called Tesla Motors Club, where Tesla owners or just electric car enthusiasts get together to discuss the developments in the industry. A 126 MPGe rating would certainly qualify as a matter worth discussing.
Just for some context, MPGe is basically the electric car equivalent of miles per gallon (MPG) that is applied to cars with combustion engines. In order to make the comparison easier for customers to understand, the efficiency of electric cars is measured via miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPGe). According to Tesla’s confirmation, the Model 3 has a really good score on that front.
It’s worth pointing out, however, that the best efficiency record right now is 136 MPGe for long range cars. That record belongs to the Hyundai Ioniq, Electrek reports. Before the Model 3’s efficiency rating was revealed, second place belonged to the Chevy Bolt.
Additionally, the 126 MPGe number was extrapolated from the 131 MPGe for city driving and 120 MPGe for highway driving ratings. Even when ignoring how the placement of these numbers affect the standing of the cars, however, it’s clear that the Model 3 has a very strong position in the electric car market.
That and the rest of its other impressive features, including acceleration that goes from 0 to 60Mph in under 6 seconds is enough to get the whole of the electric car enthusiast community abuzz. Now, it’s just a matter of actually getting the Model 3 into the hands of customers.
