Elon Musk provided a new update on the Tesla FSD development, which appears to be moving faster than anticipated. FSD V12.4, which aims to enhance miles per intervention by tenfold over V12.3, is set to begin internal testing this week. The V12.5 release is planned "in late June" and will feature support for the Tesla Cybertruck.
Tesla's Full Self-Driving V12.3 Marks a Significant Advancement, Beta Label Removed
Tesla Full Self-Driving made a significant stride forward with the introduction of V12.3 and subsequent bug-fix updates, as per Auto Evolution. Elon Musk felt secure enough to remove the beta label and actively market the automatic driving software.
Most Tesla EVs are now qualified for a free FSD trial, which should persuade more consumers to subscribe to the FSD software. However, the most crucial bet will be to convert existing vehicles into robotaxis after Tesla FSD is certified for Level-4 autonomous driving.
Currently, the software is not available, despite users reporting driving hundreds of miles without having to take control. There is a significant difference between persons who tested the FSD previously and those who have lately begun using the self-driving software. The former group has tracked FSD progress over the years and noticed a significant improvement with V12.3. Newer FSD users, on the other hand, are unfamiliar with the previous FSD capabilities and are less impressed with the present ones.
Things will change over time, and all Tesla owners will be able to observe FSD progress from now on. When the free trial period expires, some will subscribe, while others will perceive better value for their money. Even the latter will be able to subscribe to the $99 subscription to monitor development. If we trust Elon Musk, Tesla will make significantly faster progress toward vehicle autonomy. This is aided by an increase in data collection as more owners implement FSD.
Elon Musk Announces Major Updates for Tesla FSD V12.4 and V12.5
Earlier this month, Elon Musk provided an update on upcoming FSD versions. FSD V12.4 is regarded as a significant improvement, comparable to a completely new version. Musk stated that Tesla has nearly entirely retrained models to increase comfort during braking and accelerating. The 12.4 release will also abolish the steering wheel nag, depending exclusively on the cabin camera to monitor the driver. In a recent message, Musk stated that V12.4 will provide "roughly 5X to 10X improvement in miles per intervention vs 12.3."
However, the most significant build thus far will be V12.5. This is already in early testing alongside V12.6, with an emphasis on edge cases. Elon Musk has announced that FSD V12.5 will be the first build to run on the Cybertruck. Musk has provided the first concrete piece of information concerning the Cybertruck's FSD timeframe. Until recently, he maintained that the Cybertruck was not a priority, citing the few numbers produced thus far.
The FSD V12.4 will begin internal testing this week, with limited external beta testing scheduled for next week. This indicates that regular customers may receive it by the end of the month. In the case of Cybertruck owners, FSD V12.5 will not arrive until late June. Musk predicts a "major improvement" in miles per intervention, noting that it is single-stack and suitable for highway travel.
