MADISON, Wis. and CHICAGO, Sept. 27, 2016 -- Medacta USA, a leading manufacturer of orthopedic implants, neurological systems, and instrumentation, and Terso Solutions, Inc. have partnered in the Early Access Program for the RAIN RFID-enabled Mobile Case, Terso's newest solution offering. The RFID-enabled Mobile Case is an automated inventory management solution that allows medical device manufacturers real-time visibility to field inventory. This partnership will drive research and further development around the Mobile Case as it moves to general availability.
The Mobile Case is the newest RAIN RFID solution from Terso and uses patented RFID technology to automate managing field inventory. When a field representative opens the RFID Mobile Case and removes a product, the transaction is recorded in real-time and data is transferred utilizing cellular communication. This automated inventory management system requires no manual tracking, no barcodes, and no scanners. This means sales can be instantly recorded for field representatives, or invoices automatically triggered for various consignment applications. It also eliminates unnecessary shipping costs and facilitates field based replenishment of the case. Like all of Terso's RAIN RFID solutions, the Mobile Case uses Jetstream®, Terso's open API cloud-based platform that enables rapid scalability of RFID sensors and RFID data integration with business critical software applications. Medacta USA chose Terso's technology to assist with the challenge of eliminating manual processes in an effort to improve accuracy and efficiencies within its supply chain. "Medacta's business has grown significantly over the past few years, and tracking inventory once it leaves our distribution facilities has become increasingly challenging and time consuming," said Shawn McIntyre, Director of Operations for Medacta USA. "The problem is magnified in a program like ours, where inventory is frequently transferred to numerous locations and then returned to the distribution center."
Utilizing the Mobile Case, Medacta continues to see immense improvements in inventory accountability and traceability. Gaining the ability to track the physical location of in-transit inventory has helped to improve Medacta's field replenishment with 100% accuracy and simplify the overall sales process for field representatives and customers.
"The opportunity to partner with Medacta USA provides Terso with valuable and tangible operational data on the performance and design of this game-changing product," said John Kuehl, Hardware Product Manager for Terso Solutions. "Having factual field data as to how the RFID Mobile Case assists with managing and tracking field inventory, product shrinkage, delays in reporting, and stock outs, will help to foster broad-based acceptance of this product within in the healthcare industry."
