“Sword Art Online” season 3, which covers the Alicization arc of the light novel series, is slated to premiere in October. But lucky fans will have the chance to watch episode 1 in September, ahead of the series' actual return.
The exclusive premiere screening event was announced earlier this month and is slated to occur in Japan, the United States, Australia, France, Germany, Russia, and South Korea. Lucky fans will witness “Sword Art Online” season 3’s hour-long episode 1 in theaters for a ticket fee of $15.

To add to the good news, tickets can now be purchased online through the series’ official website. Meanwhile, fans in the United States can watch the beginning of “Sword Art Online” season 3 on Sept. 15, a Saturday, at The Montalbán in Los Angeles. Screening of the premiere episode starts at 6 p.m. but gates will be open by 4 p.m. possibly to accommodate cosplayers attending the event.
As mentioned, “Sword Art Online” season 3 features stories that happened in the Alicization arc of the light novel series. All in all, this arc spans volumes 9 to 18. The main premise of the 2026-set arc happens when Kirito and his friends, Eugeo and Alice, went on an adventure. Things did not go as planned and they all ended up in the Underworld. Six years after their journey was unexpectedly rerouted, they were met with the task of bringing Alice home.
There have been speculations that “Sword Art Online” season 3 is going to be the longest anime season ever. This hails from the theories that the creators will squeeze in all volumes of the Alicization arc in this season.
With that, ComicBook suggests that “Sword Art Online” season 3 could have more than 40 episodes — almost twice as many as the episodes in the first two seasons. The official release date for “Sword Art Online” season 3 has yet to be announced but it has been confirmed to happen in October.
