Many would undoubtedly agree that “Sword Art Online” Season 3 is by far the best iteration of the “SAO” franchise and for more reasons than just the art quality. This is why many fans might be disappointed to know that the season will be going on hiatus for a very long time. On the other hand, there is a new video game tie-in for viewers to look into. If only its name wasn’t so ugly.
As Comic Book reports, “Sword Art Online” Season 3 will be taking a good, long break from the spotlight. The anime will be coming back, but it won’t be until October. That is a long wait for the second half of an anime that was just getting to the good stuff. It is what it is, though, so fans will simply have to suck it up and get on with the waiting game.
In terms of story and character development, there is no comparison between “Sword Art Online” Season 3 and the first two seasons. Kirito himself is not as much of an overpowered character as he was. These aspects made the new season a hit even among critics of the series who held the opinion that the main character had as much personality as a cardboard cutout.
The success of the anime has predictably launched a video game tie-in, as well, and it is atrociously titled “Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris.” The game will ostensibly follow the events in “Sword Art Online” Season 3 right up to when the first half ends.
Just as in “Sword Art Online” Season 3, players will play as Kirito in the game and based on the trailer clip below, it would seem that this is going to be a bigger experience than previous titles. It might even be an open-world game, which would certainly be a pleasant surprise. For now, the release date for the game has not been announced.
