‘Suicide Squad’ releases its new soundtrack list including the much speculated Rick Ross and Skrillex collaboration. Director David Ayer also revealed that Joker’s tattoos contain hidden easter eggs about his part.
According to Comicbook.com, Warner Bros. recently released the list of 14 songs included in the upcoming film’s official soundtrack, entitled “Suicide Squad: The Album”. The soundtrack is available on Amazon ahead of the film’s official release and retails at $11.49.
One of the most notable tracks on the compilation is entitled “Purple Lamborghini”. Rapper Rick Ross and electronic music producer and DJ Skrillex teased the then-unknown track during a set at Atlantic City’s Wav Nightclub sometime last April. An audio capture revealed lyrics that contained references to Gotham City, Killer Croc, a purple Lamborghini and the phrase “Suicide Squad”.
It was also reported that Jared Leto shot a music video for the song in Miami, Florida earlier this month. The 44-year old actor took to Snapchat to post images of himself in full costume as The Joker.
Other tracks on the album include Kehlani’s “Gangsta”, Grace’s “You Don’t Own Me”, Skylar Grey’s “Wreak Havoc”, Panic! At the Disco’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Eminem’s “Without Me”, and ConfidentialMX’s “I Started A Joke”. Most of the songs on the soundtrack are remakes of classic songs from decades past.
Meanwhile, director David Ayer teased that there’s more to Joker’s body art than meets the eye. During an interview with Yahoo! Movies UK, Ayer revealed that Joker’s tattoos represent some key moments in his past.
He said, “The tattoos tell a very specific story. And eventually people will decipher them and understand what’s going on, but obviously they’re contentious, any time you do something new it’s contentious. There’s very specific stories and Easter eggs in those tattoos. It’s putting his history on his body.”
Ayer also likened Leto’s character to a modern-day drug lord. He said, “If a guy like him really existed today, where would he come from?... How would he do business? Who would he know? What would he look like? I took a lot of inspiration from drug lords on Instagram. It’s a great way to understand the lifestyle of a villain.”
According to an article on Forbes, Ayer’s film may be a potential blockbuster since its premiere date puts it at an advantageous spot. It is considered one of the last big-budget releases for the summer season.
‘Suicide Squad’ is an upcoming action-crime and fantasy film scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016 in the United States. It stars an ensemble cast featuring Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Scott Eastwood, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will serve as producers with Andy Horwitz and Alex Ott co-producing. Geoff Johns, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, and Colin Wilson are executive producing.
It is based on the DC comics anti-hero group of the same name and is intended as the third installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
