SEATTLE, Oct. 05, 2017 -- QuoteWizard (quotewizard.com), an online insurance comparison marketplace, today introduced a study on the cost-benefit of hiring a DUI lawyer: https://quotewizard.com/auto-insurance/cost-benefit-of-hiring-a-dui-lawyer
DUIs can cost thousands of dollars in fines and court ordered fees. On top of that, DUI convictions lead to substantially higher car insurance rates. Our research shows that drivers with DUIs can expect to pay an additional $4,000 on car insurance over a three to five-year period.
To understand the financial benefit of hiring a DUI lawyer versus using a public defender or representing yourself, we conducted a study. We examined insurance rate data, interviewed lawyers, and researched conviction statistics.
The study finds that hiring a private lawyer can pay for itself on insurance savings alone. DUIs cost thousands of dollars in fines:
- Defendants with private attorneys are three times more likely to get a DUI charge reduced than those without.
- People with DUIs pay, on average, $830 more per year for car insurance than people with clean driving histories.
- A DUI charge raises insurance rates by $1460 more than a negligent or reckless driving charge over a three-year period.
