February is going to be an eventful month for "Street Fighter V" players. The game's fifth anniversary is happening on Tuesday, and Season 5 will start a few days after that. It is then fitting that, aside from new paid content, every gamer will get free updates, including a new training stage and balancing changes.
'Street Fighter V' season 5 release date and updates to expect
The launch of "Street Fighter V" season 5 follows the game's Champion Edition's successful release last year. After months of waiting, the additional content is finally arriving in the game, with several updates accessible to all players without additional cost.
One of the free updates going live with "Street Fighter V" season 5 on Monday, Feb. 22, is a new V-System mechanic called the V-Shift. Capcom describes it as a defense-centric move that could allow players "to execute a fully invincible backdash" when done correctly and with perfect timing. It will cost one V-Gauge bar, but it should be worth it as it momentarily slows down the game time.
Capcom also confirmed that a Battle Balance Update will be released along with the "Street Fighter V" season 5. It is promised to deliver balance changes to all 40 characters currently available in the game. Gamers will also get the chance to use a new training stage called The Grid Alternative for free once the next season goes live next week.
The start of a new season will also coincide with the launch of the paid "Street Fighter V" Character Pass, which will add five new fighters starting the return of an improved Dan Hibiki. Four more characters will be released throughout the year, including Rose in spring, Oro and Akira in summer, and a fifth unnamed character in fall.
Players can buy the Character Pass separately or get the Season 5 Premium Pass bundle. Either way, they are getting Eleven as a bonus playable character.
'Street Fighter V: Champion Edition' free trial: How to get it on PS4
Since it has been five years since the game launched, Capcom is letting PS4 players try the "Street Fighter V: Champion Edition" for free until Wednesday, Feb. 24. This edition includes all content Capcom released for seasons 1 to 4. To get the demo, proceed to the game's official PS Store link. Look for "Street Fighter V - Champion Edition Trial (DEMO)" and click Add to Library.
