‘Steven Universe’ Season 6 News: Show Execs Suggest Renewal; Drop Hints on What to Expect in New Installment

Is “Steven Universe” season 6 coming? This is the common question that fans are asking after the fifth season ended last month. To answer this query, the series is not yet renewed but there are hints that it will return for another run on Cartoon Network.

At any rate, many fans were confused and believed that “Steven Universe” season 6 will not air anymore. This is because, at the end of season 5, a teaser for “Steven Universe: The Movie” was played thus they think this is the next update instead of a new season. However, show creator Rebecca Sugar hinted that the movie is not a replacement to the series so the fifth installment is not the end.

Den of Geek mentioned that on a podcast, Rebecca and former executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey talked about the fifth season’s finale titled “Change Your Mind” and during the discussion, they mentioned some things that could happen next. Needless to say, they were talking about “Steven Universe” season 6 and what fans can expect when it returns on air.

The show creator said that Steven is thinking more about his life and started to realize that he does not have to be what people want him to be. Thus, in “Steven Universe” season 6, he will think about the things that he is supposed to do or what he is supposed to become. He will reflect to find answers then lead a life according to his preference.

“I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this specific arc of Steven, 'Change Your Mind' definitively makes a definitive statement on Steven and who he is and what he thinks he is,” Ian Jones-Quartey said. “And how he feels about it. And moving forward from now, it's going to be different.”

On the other hand, Rebecca Sugar shared that everything in “Steven Universe” season 6 would be different. After saying this, Jones-Quartey added that “there's going to be more, but it's going to be different and it's going to be something new so there is a lot more to do.”

On a Reddit thread, fans also discussed more about what Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey’s interview on podcast, and they mentioned that the series is about coming of age story thus this could be a hint that in “Steven Universe” season 6, the lead star must figure things out and decide for himself. It can be assumed that with this premise, fans will see a more mature Steven in the upcoming series.

Meanwhile, the official announcement for “Steven Universe” season 6 has yet to come but there will surely be a new season. The best guess is that it will happen after “Steven Universe: The Movie.”
