“Star Trek Discovery” Season 2 showrunner has finally chosen an actor to play the role of Spock.
“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 showrunner Alex Kurtzman confirmed that Ethan Peck as Mr. Spock, the iconic character of the show.
“We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role,” Kurtzman said.
The newcomer and member of “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2, Ethan Peck is the grandson of Oscar-winning Hollywood legend Gregory Peck. He belongs to the family of the artist as his father is documentarian Stephen Peck, while his mother is artist Francine Matarazzo. He has one sibling, sister Marisa Matarazzo who is a novelist and a creative writing professor.
Peck trained at the prestigious the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, according to Express UK. The source added Whoopi Goldberg, Lady Gaga and Michael C. Hall are among its alumni. The new cast of “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2, Peck, has also played the part of Patrick Verona in the “10 Things I Hate About You” TV series, which was the role originally portrayed by late actor Heath Ledger.
The new “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 cast is not new to the sci-fi and fantasy genre either, as he has starred in the dystopian film "In Time," and he was also the voice actor in the popular RPG game "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII."
Peck, who will be playing the half-human and half-Vulcan character in “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2, had met with Nimoy’s family after his casting was announced. The actor shared a photo of himself with members of Nimoy’s family on his Twitter account, which has 5,000 Twitter followers.
“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 will focus on the relationship between lead character Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) and Spock, who is her half-brother and has been missing for some time.
The “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 is a prequel to the Star Trek Original series, taking place a decade before the events of the show with William Shatner’s James T. Kirk.
“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 will be available on Netflix on Friday, January 18.
