Microsoft had its turn, now it’s time for Sony to show off a little of what it’s got in store for gamers. Looking at the company’s biggest announcement, it certainly has a doozy of a lineup. The presentation is lackluster compared to last year, which is only to be expected. Even so, Sony still had plenty of surprises up its sleeve, including a remake of a beloved PlayStation 2 classic and a soon-to-be new classic involving Spiderman.
Although Sony’s E3 moment had a lot of important bits to unpack, The Verge looked at a few of the biggest revelations. One of the most shocking has got to be the remake of Shadow of the, which is a fan favorite hailing from the PS2 era. Looking at the video, the team behind the remaster seems to have gone the extra mile since the graphics alone are worlds above the original.
Then there’s the upcoming God of War, which features a grizzled and aged Kratos, along with his son. The game is something of a reboot, Digital Trends notes. However, as the trailer for the game clearly shows, it’s still the violent and rage-driven property that the original trilogy was. Anyone eager for a boomerang ax and beating enemies into a pulp with a shield will be most pleased.
However, a definite contender for best showing during the event is the gameplay trailer for the new Spider-Man game. Featuring fast-paced, intuitive combat reminiscent of the Batman Arkham series and Shadow of Mordor, it’s quite the acrobatic affair. The Peter Parker character himself fits the wisecracking teenage superhero quite well, which is a huge deal to fans of the Marvel figure.
It’s looking like the web-slinging, spider-sensing favorite is finally going to get the video game he deserves. Just to throw real followers of the Spiderman property for a loop, the end of the trailer also featured Miles Morales AKA “The Second Spiderman.” Does this hint of the death of the original? Stay tuned.
