Some of the much-awaited gameplay features of “Red Dead Redemption 2” will arrive first exclusively on the Sony PlayStation 4, thanks to a time-limited exclusivity deal with the game’s developer, Rockstar Games.
With an eight-year gap between the release of the first “Red Dead Redemption” and the second franchise installment, there is no doubt that “Red Dead Redemption 2” is one of the highly anticipated video games to be released this year. And although the game will be launched on both the PS4 and Xbox One platforms, Sony apparently struck a deal with developer Rockstar Games allowing PS4 players to get exclusive access to some gameplay features for a limited time.
The news was confirmed through the “Red Dead Redemption 2” listing on the PS Store. Reports took notice of a very short but important note that says, “PlayStation® Exclusive: Play select content first on PlayStation®4.”
Meanwhile, Sony and Rockstar Games are yet to specify which pieces of content will go live on the PS4 first. It is likely that both companies are still finalizing details considering that the official release of “Red Dead Redemption 2” is still several months away.
However, Rockstar Games already mentioned one tiny perk for PS4 gamers buying “Red Dead Redemption 2.” In its announcement of the game’s pre-order details and various purchasable editions, the developer said, “Digital pre-orders for ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ made via the PlayStation Store will receive an automatic download for their bonus GTA$.”
Meanwhile, Xbox One players purchasing a digital copy through the Microsoft Store will have to manually search and download the corresponding GTA$ bonus based on their pre-ordered “Red Dead Redemption 2” edition.
Meanwhile, the amounts of GTA$ bonus from digital copy pre-orders are the same regardless of the gamer’s console. They are GTA$500,000 for the Standard Edition, GTA$1,000,000 for the Special Edition and GTA$2,000,000 for the Ultimate Edition.
“Red Dead Redemption 2” is set in 1899 in America — an era that is widely known as the Wild West. The game will be released on Friday, Oct. 26.
