Song Joong Ki has been chosen to star as the lead in “Arthdal Chronicles,” but it was revealed that it is not just about the name that got him picked as Eun Som in the drama, but the writers considered certain factors for choosing their cast. The reason for their casting, including Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ji Won, have been revealed through an interview and everyone think they chose well.
Early this week, main writers of Joong Ki’s “Arthdal Chronicles” Park Sang Yeon and Kim Young Heon, praised all their cast members for doing a great job in portraying their roles. They also explained how they pick Song Hye Kyo’s husband and the rest of the cast, and here’s what they said:
As per Korea’s TV Report via Soompi, Park and Kim signed up Song Joong Ki because he is one of those very talented actors who can express a different kind of charm that is similar to Eun Som’s character. Perhaps, this means that the actor has a gentle face yet he can also be rugged if the situation calls for it
For Jang Dong Gun, he was selected to play Ta Gon in “Arthdal Chronicles” because the writers saw that he could create the kind of aura that the character has. “I wondered how his good looks had managed to create that kind of aura,” Kim said.
Writer Sang Yeon went on to explain that people paid more attention to Dong Gun’s looks than his acting skills, especially when he was younger but for them, they see his acting abilities more. They said that in addition, his aura, his skills as an actor is starting to shine; thus, they assigned the villain role to him opposite Song Joong Ki.
Finally, as for Song Joong Ki’s leading lady, Kim Ji Won, she was chosen as Tan Ya for “Arthdal Chronicles” not just for her talent, but she looks exactly like how they pictured her character in the drama. “We had drawn concept art for the character Tan Ya,” writers Sang Yeon and Young Heon related. “Since this was before the cast had been decided, we just drew it based on the character’s vibe, but I remember asking, ‘Doesn’t this look like Kim Ji Won?’ The picture and Kim Ji Won matched really well.”
“Arthdal Chronicles” is set to debut on June 1 at 9 p.m. KST. on tvN.
