Detroit, Mich., Jan. 31, 2018 -- SmithGroupJJR, one of the nation’s leading integrated design firms, has hired Joyce Durham, BSN, RN, AIA, as senior clinical advisor. Durham will provide her combined expertise in clinical operations and medical architecture and planning to the firm’s global Health Practice.

Durham is a recognized authority in clinical, operational and facility planning for healthcare facilities throughout the U.S. and internationally. Before joining SmithGroupJJR, she was senior partner and executive vice president of the Global Health Services Network, Detroit, Michigan. Durham also previously served as principal at Health Strategies and Solutions, as well as a senior medical planner at HKS and Trinity Design.

Durham’s past clients are Stanford Hospital & Clinics, New York Presbyterian Healthcare, and Tampa General Hospital. Recent noteworthy projects include HoaLam International Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for which Durham developed a business plan, functional and space programs, and operational and staffing plans for a 351-bed tertiary hospital developed as public-private partnership (PPP); and Ethio-American Doctor’s Group Medical Center, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she provided facility and operational planning for a 300-bed hospital, ambulatory care center, and cancer center.
Durham received a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Michigan. A registered architect in Michigan, she is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a founding member and current president of the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design.
