Skyworth, one of the most well-known Chinese companies that make television sets, issued an apology to LG Electronics this week. This was due to a mistake it committed related to the South Korean tech giant’s rollable TV model.
Skyworth acknowledged blunder
As per The Korea Herald, Skyworth USA Corp., the American division of China’s Skyworth, released a statement where it admitted to an error. The company apologized for the misuse of an image of LG Electronics’ TV product.
It was said that Skyworth used LG’s rollable TV image during its presentation at the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last month. It turned out that the South Korean electronics company lodged a complaint about the incident since Skyworth was not authorized to use the picture.
The CES was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but thousands of viewers saw LG’s product during Skyworth’s presentation since it was carelessly included in the exhibition. Of course, LG is not happy with it since people could easily think the product was from the Chinese TV maker.
The image that was used without permission was LG’s signature rollable OLED R TV. This was launched in South Korea in October last year, and it has been praised for its awesome innovation. The 65-inch flexible television has become the world’s first rollable TV that is not just sleek but full of exceptional features too.
The official apology from Skyworth USA
After reviewing the issue, Skyworth USA decided to respect the intellectual property rights of LG Electronics. It acknowledged its error and vowed to solve the concern.
"Skyworth USA Corporation misused an LG Rollable OLED TV image in the Skyworth TV CES 2021 live streaming presentation and mistakenly introduced it as part of our 'Innovative Skyworth OLED Products,'" the official statement reads.
The company added, "Skyworth TV acknowledges this improper use of the LG Rollable OLED TV image and wishes to reiterate that we respect all intellectual property rights.”
Skyworth further assured LG that it had taken workable steps to make sure that a similar incident will not happen again in the future. Meanwhile, LG has been dealing with many infringement cases as many companies appear to be adapting some of the technologies that they have invented.
