‘Sherlock’ Season 5’s future is unclear so fans are really worried since they may not see their favorite detective show on BBC or Netflix anymore. What’s more, the series has not been renewed yet and this only increased the fans’ concerns because it might have been canceled already.
Then again, there is no announcement of cancellation yet so there is still a big chance that they will announce the series’ renewal instead. “Sherlock” season 5 is long delayed but fans should not give up just yet because with the show’s performance, the likelihood that it will be back, outweighs the chance that it will be axed by BBC.
If it will return, when will it arrive? This is not easy to answer because “Sherlock” season 5 is not even in production yet and there are several factors why this is so. The drama’s co-creator, Steven Moffat, admitted that they cannot begin filming because almost everyone involved in the show is currently busy with other projects.
He further explained that he and co-creator Mark Gatiss have signed with BBC for another project and they are working on it together. It was revealed that the co-creators of “Sherlock” season 5 are involved in the “Dracula” TV series so apparently, they cannot take on another drama right now.
Moreover, it was rumored that there is animosity between the lead stars - Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch. Their conflict stemmed from the former’s comment about doing “Sherlock” season 5. He said it is not fun anymore and hates the pressures that come for being in the series.
This comment did not sit well with Benedict Cumberbatch so he criticized Freeman for saying such a thing when there are many fans who want to see them back. The tension created by this misunderstanding had sort of escalated so the two are reportedly not on speaking terms. Observers assumed this is another obstacle that is hindering the production of “Sherlock” season 5.
Despite these reasons, Mark Gratis said that they are not completely closing their doors and they may still do “Sherlock” season 5. However, everyone should wait, maybe a few years more, before they can finally confirm the series’ return.
