The investigation surrounding Seungri and the alleged abuses taking place in his Burning Sun club is still ballooning, with other authorities getting caught in the growing scandal. The latest development on this story was when the accused was escorted to court for his trial last week.
The proceeding focused on Seungri’s supposed involvement in prostitution, embezzlement, and violation of the Food Sanitation Act charges. Judge Shin Jong Yeol of the Seoul Central District Court also dismissed the request of detaining the Big Bang member despite the possibility of evidence destruction for the embezzlement accusation, E! reported.
Following this development, several South Korean groups were angered at the decision, with some deeming that corruption has spread through various government sectors. Others are also fearing that Seungri will walk out of this scot-free due to his connections, allkpop reported. Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Won Kyung Hwan has commented on this criticism and assured the public that they’re going to do everything they can to uncover the truth.
“We are very aware of the fact that the press and the public criticize our slow progress with the investigation to uncover collusion. We will continue to investigate this collusive relationship and get to the bottom of this,” the commissioner said. Apart from the abovementioned allegations, there are also accusations that there may have been several rape incidents that occurred in the Burning Sun club. It’s still unclear how many victims there may have been or how deep Seungri’s involvement in this narrative goes.
In the chat group uncovered by the authorities during the course of the investigation, they’ve found chilling dialogue exchange that highlighted this very fact. “Let’s all get together online, hit the strip bar and rape them in the car,” Jung Joon-young allegedly said. Jung has been one of several individuals that got caught up in this Seungri controversy.
With how everything is unfolding, there have been fears among the general public that the South Korean justice system isn’t is sound as they thought. As for Seungri himself, the K-Pop icon has denied all the allegations against him and refuse to comment further as the investigation trudges along, ABS CNB reported.
