Selena Gomez has been in and out of rehab facilities for her anxiety and depression issues. It is not a secret that she has been struggling for years, especially after she was diagnosed with lupus, an illness that she will have to deal with for a lifetime.
The actress/singer was invited to be a speaker for the annual dinner event at McLean Hospital and she shared that having depression and anxiety is a really scary thing and everyone who is suffering from the same issues should get help because it affects the person both emotionally and mentally.
Selena’s words of wisdom for people who are suffering like her
During the event, Elle Magazine shared that Selena Gomez talked about her own experience and opened up about the pains she felt at that time so things were really hard for her back then. She admitted that even smiling was tough since she is depressed inside and out. The “Wizards of Waverly Place” star said that she was able to overcome her depression after getting help and that was the only way to break away from the struggles.
"It felt like all of my pain and anxiety washed over me all at once, and it was one of the scariest moments of my life," Elle quoted her as saying. "I sought support, and the doctors were able to give me a clear diagnosis. The moment I received that information I actually felt equal parts of terrified and relieved - terrified, obviously, because the veil was lifted, but relieved I finally had the knowledge of why I had suffered for so many years from depression and anxiety.”
Selena Gomez went on to say that she finally found answers and awareness about what she has been going through and that was the time that she realized the severeness of her condition. Being aware of what it is she’s dealing with made it easier for her to face her illness head-on.
The actress was a “nerd”
