Samsung and US Cellular have agreed to support Android Marshmallow upgrade for Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini which is currently in manufacturer development stage.
Venture Capital Post reports that the current status of Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini on US Cellular is likely to end by November and will then proceed to the testing phase of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
To ensure high quality software experience, the device will go through a certification procedure from US Cellular in the testing stage. This is expected to last for at least two weeks and, if successful, will advance to the next stage – official rollout of the new Android build.
VC Post further says that Marshmallow upgrade is confirmed rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S5 mini units of US Cellular with build number SM-G800R4. The upgrade will bring in support for:
- USB Type-C technology: An all-in-one connector that can be used to charge phone nearly three hours faster as compared to the regular charging duration.
- Fingerprint scanners: In addition to being used for unlocking and securing phone, fingerprint scanners now support Android Pay.
- App permissions: Device will bid permission for actions performed for the first time. Unlike before, permission will no longer be asked certain features at the point of installation.
The release date is expected to vary according to the discretion of the mobile carrier and the device's location, VC Post said.
