Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Book 4 Edge, equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite SoC, threatens to rival the MacBook Air's dominance with its powerhouse 12-core ARM CPU and competitive pricing.
Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge: Unveiling Qualcomm's Powerhouse 12-Core ARM CPU and its Competitive Value in Comparison to the MacBook Air
According to Android Headlines, this upcoming device, powered by Qualcomm's 12-core ARM CPU with clock speeds of up to 4.3 gigahertz, is a testament to the potential of the Snapdragon X Elite chip. Developed by a team of former Apple chip designers, this processor incorporates the latest "Oryon" CPU architecture, aiming to bridge the gap between Windows and MacOS-based devices.
The Galaxy Book 4 Edge's initial specifications include a 14-inch display, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The storage and memory configurations are currently unknown.
Despite its premium price, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge offers a competitive value proposition. The high-end variant, estimated to retail around 1800 euros ($1,967), is priced similarly to the latest MacBook Air, which costs 1759 euros in Germany. This ensures that you get the best performance for your money.
Despite its high price, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge will likely justify its value proposition through its power-efficient operation. According to what Qualcomm demonstrated last year about the Snapdragon X Elite chip, Samsung's new Galaxy Book should provide significantly longer.
Snapdragon X Elite-Powered Windows on Arm Devices Outperform MacBook Air M2: A Glimpse into the Future of Performance
Fortunately, a report they released has some insights for anyone interested in potential performance gains. At last year's Snapdragon Technology Summit, Qualcomm demonstrated two machines powered by the Snapdragon X Elite chip, with TDPs of 27W and 80W. Surprisingly, both performed better than the MacBook Air with an M2 chip in Geekbench 6.2 tests conducted by XDA Developers. The one with only 23W TDP scored 2,762 and 13,845 in single and multi-core tests, respectively.
In comparison, the MacBook Air M2 only scored 2,591 and 9,837 points on the tests, respectively. The future of Windows on Arm devices appears bright, too.
The Galaxy Book 4 Edge's exact launch date has yet to be discovered. However, Qualcomm's new SoC will not be available until "mid-2024," according to Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon, who confirmed this during Qualcomm's Q1 2024 earnings call. So, expect the Snapdragon X Elite-powered Galaxy Book to arrive in the second half of the year.
