Samsung Electronics has intensified its efforts in China by aligning with Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok and the powerhouse T1 eSports team to promote their Odyssey gaming monitors. The collaboration was highlighted during an electrifying event match in Chengdu, drawing a large crowd and media attention.
The Power Duo: 'Faker' and Samsung's Odyssey
According to The Korea Times, Samsung Electronics said on Monday that it seeks to improve its market share in China's high-end gaming display market through its Odyssey brand.
On Sunday, in Chengdu, China, supporters and members of the well-known "League of Legends" team T1 engaged in an event match using Samsung's Odyssey gaming displays.
T1 is among the most well-known eSports teams worldwide. It emerged victorious from Korea's "League of Legends" World Championship in 2023. "Faker" played a significant part in the team's victory last year, which made them the first to win the championship four times.
Samsung's Strategic Alliance with eSports Legends
Lee and his team are in the Chinese city for the game's mid-season world championship competition, the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational.
150 individuals, including T1, regional gaming influencers, members of the media, and Odyssey enthusiasts, attended the event. In addition to interacting with Odyssey fans and having a Q&A session with T1, attendees had the chance to test the Odyssey gaming monitors.
Following the event's conclusion, Lee stated, "This event with Chinese Odyssey fans was a significant opportunity. I am very glad to have experienced the top-performance Samsung gaming monitor Odyssey's new product firsthand."
As of 2020, Samsung and eSports sensation "Faker" have a formal collaboration whereby the business supplies gaming monitors to Lee and the T1 players.
According to Future Market Insights, the gaming monitor market was worth $9.8 billion last year and is predicted to reach $18.40 billion by 2033.
Unveiling the High-Performance Odyssey G50D
With a 180Hz refresh rate and a 1-millisecond response time, Samsung's Chinese business has introduced the Odyssey G50D, a new 2024 model gaming monitor aimed at the Chinese gaming market.
SamMobile says that this is a part of Samsung's efforts to get back into the Chinese market, where it has been severely marginalized due to fierce competition from regional producers in markets for consumer electronics, home appliances, and cell phones.
