Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have now returned to television screens as their beloved characters in “Outlander” Season 4. Both celebrities admit that this installment has been quite a challenge to film since they are dealing with slavery and other oppressions during the early days of America.
Caitriona Balfe cited a particular scene that aired in “Outlander” Season 4 that really hit her hard. The scene in question is when Rufus (Jerome Holder) handed Claire (Balfe) a cup of tea, The Daily Express reported. Sam Heughan also admitted that it was difficult for him to deal with the theme of “Outlander” Season 4 as they haven’t really tackled such scenes in previous installments.
The actor further explained that immersing himself in such a storyline takes some getting used to. While Caitriona Balfe said she found solace in Holder’s acting performance, Sam Heughan said that it’s the perspective of his character that makes him empathize with the slaves’ situation.
Although Jamie (Sam Heughan) wasn’t necessarily a slave in the previous installment, he did experience being a prisoner, which allows him to develop an understanding of how the oppressed feels like. Caitriona Balfe explains that Claire and Jamie didn’t want to get involved in this slave business in the first place but was manipulated into it all the same.
It goes without saying that it would be difficult for both characters to find their own path in “Outlander” Season 4 seeing how the mob reacted when Claire tried to be compassionate to Rufus. The end of the second episode was quite the harrowing scene which surely left a mark on Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. And with a villain slated to add more woes to the journey of Claire and Jamie, things will only get harder from here. As for when the next episode of “Outlander” Season 4 will air, “The False Bride” is slated for release on Nov. 18.
