Russian forces targeted Kyiv’s Pivnichnyi Bridge with a drone for a second straight day on Sunday, intensifying attacks on critical infrastructure across Ukraine as fighting continued in several regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian strikes also hit a pharmaceutical warehouse in Sumy and a communications facility in Dnipro. The attacks killed one person and injured six others, according to the president.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency crews were sent to the Pivnichnyi Bridge, also called the Northern Bridge. Russian forces had struck the crossing on Saturday alongside a logistics center near Kyiv. The latest assault followed an attack last week on the capital’s southern road-and-rail bridge, highlighting increased pressure on Ukraine’s transport, energy and communications networks.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its military also targeted a Nova Poshta logistics center in Chornomorsk, a data center in Odesa and a dry cargo vessel operating in the Black Sea.

The attacks came as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv for talks with Zelenskyy and was expected to reaffirm Germany’s support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy urged international partners to respond to Russia’s escalating strikes and called for Moscow to be held accountable.

Meanwhile, Russia said its air defenses intercepted 559 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple Russian regions, the Crimean Peninsula and the Azov and Black Seas.

Ukraine reported that Russia launched 135 drones and missiles overnight. Ukrainian forces said they destroyed 123 drones and two Banderol missiles.

The latest Russia-Ukraine attacks reflect a growing focus by both sides on infrastructure targets. Zelenskyy told the Financial Times last week that intelligence intercepted by Kyiv indicated Russian President Vladimir Putin had instructed military commanders to intensify strikes on civilian targets.

Russia has not publicly responded to Zelenskyy’s allegation, while drone and missile exchanges continue to escalate across the conflict.
