‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7’s episode 3 will take the team to a zombie convention to solve a murder mystery. The series is on its final run on TNT after its cancellation was announced in January 2016.
The synopsis posted on Spoiler TV stated, “The team works on behalf of the dead – and the undead – after a murder at a zombie convention. Angela decides to pursue her GED after revealing that she never graduated from high school.” The incoming episode is directed by Katie Wech with a screenplay penned by Steve Robin.
Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander star as homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles, respectively. According to USA Today, season 7 is set to be the bantering duo’s final run on the small screen after TNT decided to cancel the show in a strategic move of restructuring their programs towards edgier series such as ‘Animal Kingdom’ and ‘Good Behavior’. TNT chief Kevin Reilly announced the end of ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ last January.
According to TV Guide, executive producer Jan Nash said that they wanted the series’ final season to focus more on the characters. Nash revealed, "We wanted to give everyone something interesting to do in Season 7 so they know they left it all on the field, that they got to play all the colors of these characters."
She added, "One of the things we thought about when we were just thinking about it as Season 7 was, 'Was there a way for us to challenge Jane and Maura's superpowers?’... Maura is so smart but she ... makes some mistakes and starts to doubt herself… Jane is a supercop. If she does not define herself as that, then who is she? And what does she want?"
Nash also stressed that “great female friendships” was one of the series’ biggest appeals. She said, “There are a few, mostly in comedies, now — but there have not been great female friendships that have been at the forefront of a drama since Cagney and Lacey."
‘Rizzoli & Isles’ is a police procedural drama series developed by Janet Tamaro based on the novels by Tess Gerritsen. It premiered its first episode on TNT on July 2010. Harmon won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Actress in 2015 while Alexander received hers in 2016.
Season 7’s episode 3 is scheduled to premiere on TNT on June 13, 2016.
