Gamers who have picked up “Red Dead Redemption 2” may have noticed a strange side quest called “Geology for Beginners” by now. The mission is triggered when the player speaks with a stranger named Francis Sinclair outside a cabin northwest of the town of Strawberry, and the player will be tasked with locating 10 rock carvings.
Players will have to send Sinclair the coordinates to the rock carvings, but finding them all isn’t easy and the quest can be time-consuming. Fortunately, this guide can help you locate all 10 rock carvings so you don’t have to travel aimlessly for hours.
Most tend to agree that the first move players have to make is to find the rock carvings near Sinclair’s cabin in West Elizabeth. The first is located on the western bank of Lake Owanjila just west of Strawberry, and the second is located at the top of Mount Shann. As noted by Polygon’s Jeffrey Parkin in his walkthrough, players can get there by heading north of Strawberry.
After that, players will have to head to Ambarino for the next three rock carvings in “Red Dead Redemption 2.” The easiest one to locate is the carving at the top of Mount Hagan, while the next one is just north of Window Rock. The third rock carving in Ambarino can be found south of Moonstone Pond.
Once you the three in Ambarino are found, players should head to New Hanover where the rest of the rock carvings are located. The sixth carving can be found northwest of Flatneck Station, and there are two more along the Dakota River. One is at a ledge on the eastern bank rock ledge, while the other is just northeast of Fort Wallace.
The ninth rock carving can be found on a cliff northwest of Annesburg, and the last one is located near the Elysian Pool southeast of Annesburg. Once all 10 rock carvings are located, players can head to any post office in “Red Dead Redemption 2” to mail the coordinates to Sinclair and collect the reward.
